Cambodia Denies Viral Claims Targeting African Nationals in Cambodia

African nationals in Cambodia

Cambodia has officially denied viral reports claiming that African nationals have been ordered to leave the country, describing the circulating notice as fake and unauthorised.

Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration (GDI), under the Ministry of Interior, publicly refuted the viral notice through an official statement issued on May 29, 2026, in Phnom Penh and subsequently shared through its official communication channels.

The agency described the document circulating on social media as fake and unauthorised, stressing that no directive had been issued ordering African nationals to leave the country.

The clarification comes after a document widely shared across social media alleged that African nationals living in Cambodia had been given a deadline to leave the country or face penalties. The notice quickly generated concern among African communities and prospective travellers.

However, Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration has confirmed that no such directive exists and that the document did not originate from any official government source.

Authorities emphasised that Cambodia has not introduced any policy targeting African nationals and that foreign residents and visitors can continue to live, work, study, or travel in the country in accordance with existing immigration laws and visa requirements.

The government also warned travellers and residents against relying on unverified information circulating online, encouraging people to obtain immigration updates directly from official channels.
