The Nigerian government has removed South Africa, Brazil and Turkey from the list of restricted countries with an embargo placed on inbound non-Nigerian passengers.
According to the chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, the decision was taken after a careful review of the pandemic situation in the three countries. Boss Mustapha announced the decision in Abuja on Wednesday, 13 October, 2021 and stated the lifting of the restrictions was with immediate effect.
However, the Guidelines page on the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has not been updated as the last update is dated 27th April 2021.

The three countries were among the worst hit by the COVID-19 Delta strain that claimed many lives.The decision to ease the restrictions was taken by PSC after a marathon session on Wednesday after the PSC reviewed the developments in the affected countries.
In other news, the United Kingdom has removed Ethiopia from its red list. As of October 11 2021, arrivals from Ethiopia to the UK will no longer have to enter hotel quarantine. Travellers have to do a PCR test on or before day 2. Announcing the update on Twitter on October 7, 2021, UK transport Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed that the UK Government will move Ethiopia to Britain’s “Rest of the World List.”
Ethiopia was added to England`s red list on Friday, March 19 2021, to protect the country against a new variant of coronavirus (COVID-19) at a critical time for the vaccine programme.
The UK government scrapped the traffic light system in a significant overhaul of England’s COVID travel restrictions which came into effect on October 4.
What is the Traffic Light System? The Traffic Light System determines the level of coronavirus risk in overseas countries, which will be rated red, amber or green — with green representing the fewest restrictions for travellers and red the most.
It means the three-tier travel system has been replaced by one category of low risk “rest of the world” travel destinations alongside a red list.
Fully-vaccinated arrivals no longer need to take a pre-departure lateral flow test but instead a post-arrival day two test.
