Nigeria Airports To Resume International Flights 29 August 2020

A few hours ago, the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Nigeria, Hadi Sirika announced via his Twitter handle @hadisirika that Nigeria airports will resume international flights in phases starting with the reopening of Abuja and Lagos International airports on the 29 August 2020. He stated that protocols and procedures would be announced in due course.

“Glad to announce the resumption of international flights from the 29th of August, 2020. Beginning with Lagos and Abuja as we did with the domestic flight resumption. “Protocols and procedures will be announced in due course. We thank you for your patience,” – Hadi Sirika

While this is exciting news, we have pieced together some of the developments to expect when the international airports reopen. We have observed social distancing markers at the international airport, glass shield at counters, sanitizer dispensers and other essential guidelines which people have grown accustomed to; as they can be found in malls, event centres and the likes.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on Sunday, 16 August 2020, released a memo via the tweeter handle stating that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) OFFERS NO CASH SERVICES TO PASSENGERS, URGES PASSENGERS TO RESIST AND REPORT SUCH REQUESTS ON THE SPOT.

As the nation’s airports begin to reopen gradually for flight operations, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has advised passengers to desist from:

Giving money and to report any official from any agency that requests money under any guise. The Authority will like to inform passengers and other airport users that there is no aspect of its services at the airports that is being paid for by cash.
Arriving passengers are expected to have gone through the Covid-19 test before boarding their flights from ports of departure, therefore they should not pay any money whatsoever to any airport official for the purpose.
All Covid-19 measures put in place at the airports are free for passengers and does not attract any charges. Meanwhile, the recent allegation that some airport officials in Abuja were collecting money from returning passengers on evacuation flights.
Is already being investigated by all agencies at the airport. The Authority will also like to use this medium to appeal to passengers once again to always ensure adherence to all safety and security measures at the airports.
