Zanzibar has been named the second-best island getaway destination in 2024, according to a study by Bounce. This ranking places Zanzibar ahead of renowned destinations like Mallorca, Ibiza, and Sardinia, with only Phuket, Thailand, taking the top spot.
The study highlights various factors contributing to Zanzibar’s appeal, including its favourable weather conditions, an abundance of beaches, and affordable hotel prices. Zanzibar’s average temperature of 28°C in February, warm sea temperature of 30°C in March, and high rainfall of up to 401 mm in April distinguish it from other island destinations.
Moreover, Zanzibar’s affordability sets it apart, with hotel prices averaging at $160 per night, significantly lower than other popular destinations like Bali, Indonesia. Despite recent price hikes in the liquor business, local beer remains relatively inexpensive at $1.93 (Sh5,000) compared to other locations.
Zanzibar’s diverse attractions, including its historical sites like Stone Town and pristine beaches such as Kendwa and Nungwi, have garnered praise from previous visitors. Reviewers on platforms like TripAdvisor commend Zanzibar for its beauty, friendly people, great weather, and delicious food.
The Bounce study suggests that Zanzibar offers an excellent alternative for travellers seeking to avoid overcrowded tourist spots and high prices. Additionally, its minimal time difference with the UK makes it an attractive option for those looking to minimize jet lag despite its long-haul journey.
It’s also worth noting that Mauritius, another African destination, made it to the top 10 island getaways in the study, further highlighting Africa’s appeal as a prime vacation destination.
