Yesterday, January 24th 2022, the United Kingdom’s government announced that they would eliminate all COVID-19 testing requirements for fully vaccinated passengers entering England.
Passengers entering England who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to book a Day-2 arrivals test as of 0400 on February 11th.
“Today’s announcement delivers a welcome boost to the travel industry and the UK economy,” British Airways Chairman and CEO Sean Doyle said following the announcement. Finally, fully vaccinated consumers can start booking with confidence, whether they’re doing business, going on vacation, or reuniting with friends and family, all without the added cost and time commitment of testing. It sends a strong message to the rest of the world that Britain is open for business again.
Op-ed
This decision indicates a progressive step towards improving travel convenience worldwide and winning against the COVID-19 pandemic. The cost of travelling went up on average 35%, with testing taking the chunk of at least 50% of that increase. Also, we can only hope that discriminatory immigration policies & a hike in ticket prices that were excused by the pandemic would be eliminated soonest.
