The Apurva Kempinski Bali, located in Nusa Dua, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming Indonesia’s first hotel to be certified by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). This certification recognizes the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and highlights its adherence to rigorous global standards for sustainable travel and tourism.
The Apurva Kempinski is renowned for its luxurious accommodations and environmental stewardship. The hotel has been a leader in implementing environmentally friendly practices since its opening in 2019. It has adopted an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management system to meet the EarthCheck Standard Certification and now proudly holds the GSTC certification as well.
The GSTC certification process is comprehensive, requiring adherence to a wide range of industry criteria aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainability Goals. The Apurva Kempinski’s initiatives include a hydroponic rooftop garden, the use of electric vehicles, and a partnership with Eco-Tourism Bali to plant 1,000 mangrove seeds as part of a reforestation program.
Vincent Guironnet, the hotel’s General Manager, emphasized the resort’s dedication to sustainable development, stating, “It is truly an honour for us to be the first hotel in Indonesia to receive the prestigious GSTC certification. This recognition reaffirms our commitment not only to providing unparalleled luxury experiences but also to leading the charge in sustainable tourism practices.”
The hotel’s sustainability efforts extend beyond environmental initiatives. It employs 21.7% of its staff from local communities and collaborates with local farmers through the Sustainable Agriculture program to promote eco-farming techniques and economic growth. Additionally, the hotel integrates Indonesian culture into the guest experience, preserving and showcasing the nation’s rich heritage.
The Apurva Kempinski is set in Nusa Dua, one of Bali’s top vacation and event destinations. The hotel offers 475 rooms, suites, and villas, with 60% featuring private plunge pools, and it provides breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. The resort has hosted significant international events, including the G20 Summit in November 2022, and is a beacon of luxury and sustainability in the region.
