Air Peace Receives Approval for Direct Nigeria–Brazil Flights, Cutting Travel Time to Seven Hours

Direct Nigeria-Brazil flights

Travel between Nigeria and Brazil could soon become significantly faster following a major milestone for Nigerian aviation. Travel between both countries could soon become easier following approval for direct Nigeria-Brazil flights.

On 20 June 2026, Air Peace announced that it had received regulatory approval from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) to commence direct flight services between Nigeria and Brazil.

The approval paves the way for a future Lagos–São Paulo route, which is expected to reduce travel time between both countries to approximately seven hours, compared to the current journey time of more than 15 hours via connecting flights through Europe or the Middle East.

A Historic First for Nigerian Aviation

The development makes Air Peace the first Nigerian airline to secure direct access to the South American market, strengthening connectivity between Africa’s largest economy and South America’s largest nation.

According to Air Peace chairman and chief executive officer Allen Onyema, the approval represents more than simply the launch of a new route. The airline believes the service will help drive increased trade, tourism, investment opportunities, and cultural exchange between Nigeria and Brazil.

The approval also supports Air Peace’s broader vision of expanding African connectivity and providing travellers with more direct international travel options.

Route Launch Date Yet to Be Announced

While regulatory approval has now been secured, Air Peace stated that flight schedules, commencement dates, and fares will be announced once final operational arrangements have been completed, including slot allocations and ground handling agreements.

The Brazil approval marks another significant step in the airline’s international expansion strategy. Air Peace now operates or holds approvals across Africa, Europe, Asia, and South America, with international destinations including London, Dubai, Johannesburg, Mumbai, and Guangzhou.

What This Means for Travellers

For Nigerian travellers, the upcoming route could make Brazil more accessible than ever before, reducing transit times, eliminating lengthy layovers, and simplifying travel between both regions.

The new connection is expected to benefit business travellers, tourists, students, investors, and members of the Afro-Brazilian diaspora seeking easier access between Nigeria and Brazil.

Once launched, the service could also open up new opportunities for leisure travel to Brazil’s vibrant cities, cultural attractions, beaches, and growing business hubs.
